Slim, Sculpted Arms — Without the Scars

Arm Liposuction in Ottawa with Dr. Mehrad Jaberi

You work out. You eat well. And yet no matter what you do, your upper arms hold onto stubborn fat like it's their full-time job. Sound familiar? You're not alone — the upper arms are one of the most frustrating areas for stubborn fat, especially for women. Sometimes genetics just decides where fat wants to live, and no workout on Earth can override that.

Arm liposuction is the targeted solution. It removes that stubborn fat through tiny incisions that leave virtually no visible scars, giving you slimmer, more defined arms with a quick recovery. If your skin quality is good, the results can be just as transformative as an arm lift — without the longer scar.

What Is Arm Liposuction?

Arm liposuction is a targeted procedure that removes stubborn fat from the upper arms using small cannulas inserted through tiny incisions (just a few millimeters each). The fat cells are permanently removed — they don't grow back. Your body is left with fewer fat cells in that area, so even if you gain a little weight down the road, your arms won't accumulate fat the way they used to.

The incisions are so small they barely need stitches and leave virtually no visible scars — a major advantage over an arm lift. Most patients can't even find their incision points after a few months.

Here's the important caveat: arm lipo works best when your skin has good elasticity. After the fat is removed, your skin needs to retract and tighten around the new, slimmer contour. Younger skin and skin that hasn't been significantly stretched typically does this very well. If there's significant loose skin or poor skin quality, an arm lift may be the better path — or a combination of both.

Dr. Jaberi uses power-assisted liposuction (PAL) for arm contouring, which allows for more precise fat removal and smoother results. The vibrating cannula breaks up fat cells gently, reducing trauma to surrounding tissue and resulting in less bruising and a faster recovery.

Is Arm Liposuction Right for You?

Arm lipo is ideal if:

  • You have stubborn arm fat that doesn't respond to diet or exercise
  • Your skin has good elasticity (it bounces back when pinched)
  • Your issue is mild to moderate fullness, not severe skin laxity
  • You want slimmer arms with minimal scarring and fast recovery
  • You're at or near your ideal weight
  • You prefer a less invasive option over a full arm lift

Not sure if you need lipo or a lift? That's what the consultation is for. Dr. Jaberi will assess your skin, pinch test your fat, and tell you straight up which approach will give you the best result.

What to Expect — Quick, Targeted, Effective

Your Consultation

Dr. Jaberi will examine your arms, assess the amount of excess fat, and — critically — evaluate your skin elasticity. He'll pinch the skin to see how well it retracts, which tells him whether lipo alone will give you a smooth result or if a lift is needed too. He's not going to push you toward a bigger procedure if you don't need it.

You'll also discuss whether you want to combine arm lipo with other areas — some patients treat arms as part of a broader contouring plan.

Surgery Day

This is a fast procedure — about an hour under sedation (twilight anesthesia). You're comfortably relaxed but not under general anesthesia, which means a quicker recovery. Dr. Jaberi makes 2–3 tiny incisions per arm, injects tumescent fluid (which numbs the area and reduces bleeding), and then uses power-assisted liposuction to precisely remove fat and sculpt the arm contour.

You'll go home the same day wearing compression sleeves. Most patients are pleasantly surprised by how minor the whole experience feels.

Recovery Timeline

Days 1–2

Mild soreness and swelling. Some bruising is normal. The compression sleeves feel snug but comfortable. You can do light activities around the house from day one.

Days 3–5

Most patients are back at work. Swelling is the main thing you'll notice — your arms may look slightly larger than expected at first because of fluid retention. That's temporary.

Weeks 1–2

Bruising fades. Swelling starts going down noticeably. You can see the slimmer contour starting to emerge. Light exercise (walking, lower body) is fine.

Weeks 3–4

Compression sleeves come off. Upper body exercises gradually resume. Your arms are looking significantly slimmer and more defined.

Month 2–3

Residual swelling fully resolves. Your final result is here — sleeker, more proportionate arms. Those tiny incision points? You probably can't find them.

Frequently Asked Questions

It comes down to skin quality. If you pinch the skin on your upper arm and it bounces back quickly, lipo alone will likely give you a great result. If the skin hangs and stays hanging, a lift is needed to remove the excess. Sometimes a combination of both is ideal. Dr. Jaberi will examine you and give you a clear recommendation — no guesswork.

If your skin has good elasticity: yes, it will retract and tighten around the new slimmer contour. Younger skin, skin that hasn't been dramatically stretched, and skin with good collagen quality typically retracts very well. If your skin is looser or thinner, the retraction may not be enough — and that's when an arm lift becomes the better option.

Arm lipo recovery is very manageable. Most patients take 3 to 5 days off work and are back to light daily activities almost immediately. The main restriction is avoiding heavy arm use for about 2 weeks and wearing compression sleeves for 4 to 6 weeks. Full exercise typically resumes at 4 weeks. It's genuinely one of the easier recoveries in plastic surgery.

Typically several hundred cc's per arm — enough to make a noticeable, visible difference in contour. Dr. Jaberi doesn't focus on a specific number; he sculpts until the contour looks natural and proportionate. Over-removing fat can lead to divots or irregularities, so precision is more important than volume.

Yes — the fat cells that are removed are gone permanently. Your body can't create new fat cells in that area. If you gain weight, the remaining fat cells can expand, but you'll always have a slimmer arm contour relative to where you started. Maintaining a stable weight gives you the best long-term result.
