Stop Looking Tired When You Feel Wide Awake
Brow Lift & Forehead Rejuvenation in Ottawa with Dr. Mehrad Jaberi
Ever had someone ask, "Are you okay? You look tired" — when you've actually had a perfectly fine night's sleep? Yeah. That one stings. And it's usually not about sleep at all. It's about your brows.
When brows drop — even just a few millimeters — it changes your entire expression. You look fatigued, concerned, or even angry when you're none of those things. Deep forehead creases add to the effect. The frustrating part? No skincare product in the world can lift a brow that gravity has pulled down. But a brow lift can — and the transformation is honestly one of the most rewarding things Dr. Jaberi does.

What Exactly Is a Brow Lift?
A brow lift (also called a forehead lift) does exactly what it sounds like — it lifts your brows back to a more youthful, natural position. But it's so much more than just lifting skin. The procedure releases the muscles that cause frown lines and deep forehead creases, smooths out horizontal wrinkles, and opens up the entire eye area.
Dr. Jaberi most commonly performs the endoscopic brow lift, which uses a few small incisions hidden behind the hairline and a tiny camera to guide the procedure. Think of it as minimally invasive with maximum impact — less swelling, faster recovery, and virtually invisible scars.
The result? Your eyes look more open, your forehead looks smoother, and your whole upper face looks refreshed and relaxed. People will tell you that you look "rested" or "happy" — and they won't be able to figure out why. That's the beauty of a well-done brow lift.
Who's the Perfect Candidate?
A brow lift could be the answer if you're dealing with:
- Heavy or drooping brows that make you look tired or angry
- Deep horizontal forehead lines that creams can't touch
- Severe frown lines between your brows (the "11s")
- Brow asymmetry — one sitting noticeably lower than the other
- A "hooded" upper eyelid appearance that's actually caused by a low brow
- Botox that used to keep your brows lifted but isn't cutting it anymore
Fun fact: many patients who come in thinking they need eyelid surgery actually need a brow lift instead — or a combination of both. A droopy brow pushes skin down onto the eyelid, mimicking eyelid sagging. Dr. Jaberi sorts this out during your consultation so you get the right procedure for the right problem.
What to Expect — Your Journey to a Brighter Expression
Your Consultation
Dr. Jaberi will examine your brow position, forehead dynamics, and upper eyelids to understand the full picture. He'll ask you to make different expressions — raise your brows, frown — to see how your muscles are contributing to the issue. Then he'll manually lift your brows to show you what a brow lift can achieve. It's always an "aha" moment for patients.
He'll also determine which technique is best for your anatomy and hairline, and whether combining the brow lift with upper eyelid surgery would give you the most natural result.
Surgery Day
The endoscopic brow lift takes just 1 to 2 hours. Through 3 to 5 tiny incisions behind the hairline, Dr. Jaberi uses an endoscope (a small camera) to lift and reposition the brow tissues. He releases the muscles that cause deep creases, elevates the brow to its ideal position, and secures everything in place.
It's done under general anesthesia or IV sedation — whichever is most appropriate for your case. You'll head home the same day feeling sleepy but comfortable.
Recovery Timeline
Moderate swelling, particularly around the eyes (it may migrate downward — don't panic, that's gravity at work). Ice packs and head elevation are your best friends.
Swelling and bruising improve significantly. Any temporary numbness or tingling in the forehead is completely normal and resolves on its own.
Most patients feel comfortable going back to work and social activities. Your brow position will look slightly elevated — it settles into its final, natural position over the coming weeks.
Back to exercise and full activity. Results continue to refine as tissues settle.
Your final, natural-looking result. Your eyes look open, your forehead is smooth, and that "tired" look is officially a thing of the past.
Frequently Asked Questions
Botox is fantastic for wrinkles and can create a subtle chemical brow lift by relaxing the muscles that pull the brow down. But there's a limit to what it can do. If your brows have physically descended — if they're sitting on or below the orbital rim — Botox can't lift tissue that's migrated downward. Think of Botox as maintenance and a brow lift as renovation. Many patients use Botox happily for years and eventually transition to a brow lift when they want a more significant, lasting change.
A well-performed brow lift lasts 7 to 10 years. The procedure doesn't stop aging, but it resets the starting point. Most patients find that even years later, their brow position is still significantly better than where it would have been without surgery. And for those deep forehead lines? The muscle release Dr. Jaberi performs means some of those creases are permanently softened.
Endoscopic brow lift incisions are tiny (about 1 cm each) and hidden well behind the hairline — they're virtually invisible. Hair grows right through them. If you have a naturally high forehead, Dr. Jaberi may recommend a hairline approach, where the incision is placed right at the hairline. This lifts the brow without raising the hairline and heals to a very fine, concealed line.
This is where a proper examination really matters. A droopy brow pushes skin down onto the upper eyelid, making it look like you have excess eyelid skin when the real problem is brow position. If you only did eyelid surgery, you'd fix the symptom but not the cause — and the heaviness would return faster. Dr. Jaberi evaluates both the brow and the eyelid to make sure you get the right procedure (or combination) for a truly lasting result.
Not if it's done correctly — and that's exactly why technique matters. The "deer in headlights" look comes from over-lifting or lifting the brow uniformly instead of addressing the specific areas that need it. Dr. Jaberi lifts the lateral (outer) brow more than the inner brow to create a natural, refreshed arch — never a startled expression. Your brows will look like they belong on your face, just a few millimeters higher.
